Holiday Itinerary in Cooperstown

By: The Otesaga Resort Hotel / 16 Nov 2017

The hustle and bustle of the holidays is here and Cooperstown is a great place for a little together time with family this season. Whether you love food, the theatre, sports or smiling kids - there are opportunities everywhere to spend time with those you love.

Thanksgiving Weekend

In Cooperstown, we know how to kick off the holiday season with a bang at Thanksgiving! Right here at The Otesaga, we host both a grand buffet with all the trimmings and a more casual dinner option at Hawkeye Bar and Grill. In addition, the weekend is filled with activities like family movies, bingo, carriage rides, adult holiday decorating classes and more! Weekend packages are available. At the Farmers' Museum, Thanksgiving on the Farm showcases how Thanksgiving has evolved over the last 150 years. See old recipes for holiday treats being made right before your eyes, take a ride on the carousel, and see an old printing press in action. Admission is by donation - all amounts are welcome.

Figure out Figure Skating

What are the holidays without a little winter sports? Catch the Dick Button Collection at Fenimore Art Museum before it closes on December 31st. >The collection is comprised of paintings, posters, sculptures, costumes, and folk art that highlights the sport throughout the decades and across a multitude of cultures.

Bonus! Find a gorgeous selection of books on figure skating icons such as Dick Button, Dorothy Hamill, and Peggy Fleming in the gift shop.

Visit with Santa

There are a few ways to spend a moment with Santa this Christmas in Cooperstown. One of our most popular events is Breakfast with Santa at The Otesaga on December 16th &17th. We have two dates this year, because nothing is brighter than a child's face at the sight of Santa. Breakfast with Santa also features a specialty kids buffet with everything a child could dream of for breakfast. Or, visit with Santa right in the heart of Cooperstown at Pioneer Park. Santa inhabits his village there each year, just to visit with the kids of New York. He arrives on November 24th!

Christmas on Stage and On Screen

Holiday movies and plays are a staple of the season and this year, we're offering a great way to introduce the kids to all the classics like the Grinch, Elf and Polar Express. Our newest holiday event, Classics & Cookies promises movies in multiple rooms, endless Christmas cookies and festive drinks. And, it is only $5! If you prefer the stage, check out A Christmas Carol at The Farmers' Museum. The Dickens classic embodies the spirit of the season and is a perfect way to spend time with family and friends during the holidays.

Add a Little Wassail to your Weekend

Every weekend in November and December they are making wassail over at Fly Creek Cider Mill. Wassail, also known as spiced cider is a traditional and tasty holiday drink great for the whole family. In addition to wassail, they offer over 40 samples daily - showcasing various products from New York State cheeses to fudge, dips, and more. The week of Thanksgiving is Double Dipping Week, where they plan to have 80 samples out every day. A trip to the Mill is a an outing the whole family can enjoy.

New Year's Eve at The Otesaga

We are planning a New Year's Eve bash you'll never forget. Chef Perillo and his culinary team are preparing a prix-fixe menu to send you into 2018 talking about the amazing lobster tail. Plus, after the meal dance your heart out with a live band. Overnight packages are also available.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to visit Cooperstown during the holiday season. To see our latest specials and packages, please visit our Specials page. Warmest wishes and we hope to see you this holiday season!
