The Festival finale is “1924 Now and Beyond.” ’23 skidoo – come sample the rich range of music, art, and life from 1924 as we bring back the era of the Roaring Twenties. In France, they called it “The Crazy Years”; in America, “The Jazz Age.” No matter what you called it, it was a time to forget the horrors of the Great War. It was a time to kick up your heels, drink some giggle water, enjoy life, and experiment, whether it be Gershwin’s invention of concert jazz, Prokofiev’s unique Quintet originally intended for a circus ballet, or Varese’s explorations into sonic cubism. David Noon, Curator.
