"A PLACE OF MEETING"
IN UPSTATE NEW YORK

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y.— Many years ago, the land on the southern shore of Lake Otsego, the “Glimmerglass” of James Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking Tales, was known as “o-te-sa-ga,” Iroquois for “a place of meeting.” Since 1909, The Otesaga Hotel, an imposing Georgian edifice occupying 700 feet of that scenic lakefront, has been one of the country’s premier resorts, providing first-class accommodations, fine dining, gracious hospitality and, in keeping with its name, an ideal meeting place.

Having recently completed a $34-million renovation to restore the 135-room Hotel’s architectural grandeur, refurbish its kitchen and championship, 18-hole Leatherstocking Golf Course and update its meeting facilities, The Otesaga will enter its 98th season in April 2007 looking more distinguished than ever. The Otesaga continually receives the coveted AAA Four Diamond Award, for providing exceptional accommodations, excellent service and an elegant atmosphere. The Hotel traditionally opens its doors for the season in mid-April, and closes for the winter in December.

Meeting packages include accommodations, meeting space, all meals and access to The Resort's sports and recreation facilities. Rates are based on double occupancy, with a minimum of 10 rooms required. Single rates are also available. For more information or to make in-season  reservations call Group Sales at (800) 348-6222 or email Sales@Otesaga.com. Meeting packages are not offered during July or August.

With over 13,000 square feet of versatile meeting space, The Otesaga is an ideal venue for corporate gatherings, conferences and incentives, while private dinners, weddings and banquets can be arranged in various settings within The Hotel. Meetings planners may choose from 12 conference and banquet rooms, ranging in size from the charming, 12-person Pathfinder Room for breakout meetings to the 2,625-square-foot Main Dining Room, ideal for formal dinners for up to 350.

The Otesaga blends perfectly with the Village of Cooperstown, a culturally rich repository of Americana combining natural beauty with an unhurried pace. Founded in 1786 by William Cooper, father of novelist James Fenimore Cooper, Cooperstown offers one-of-a-kind attractions, such as the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers’ Museum, all of which may be used in conjunction with group events held at The Otesaga. The Hotel’s meetings director, Robert Faller, coordinates customized arrangements to suit a broad range of needs.

Meetings participants can play a game of baseball on Cooperstown’s legendary Doubleday Field, located a block from the Hall of Fame and featured in the Hollywood film “A League Of Their Own." Legend has it that one day in 1839, Abner Doubleday chased the cows off Elihu Phinney’s pasture in Cooperstown, laid out a simple diamond, and thus transformed the rural game of town ball into a national obsession known as baseball. A game played in this old-style ballpark, on the site where Elihu Phinney’s cow pasture once stood, is sure to be a memorable one.

The Otesaga’s uniquely appointed and airy spaces are a refreshing alternative to the cramped and dull quarters usually associated with meetings. For weddings and large social events, the romantic Ballroom is lined with parallel colonnades of fluted Doric columns and lattice-work panels, and boasts 20-foot coffered ceilings. The 651-square-foot Abner Doubleday Room offers a scenic view of Lake Otsego and original paintings depicting baseball scenes. The Otesaga’s meeting rooms are equipped with high-speed Internet connections and state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment.

To offset the intellectual demands of conference sessions, The Otesaga offers an array of sports and recreational facilities, including the Leatherstocking Golf Course, a par-72 championship course, designed by Devereux Emmet in 1909. The Otesaga was voted one of the 50 top golf resorts in the U.S. by readers of Condé Nast Traveler and one of the top ten golf resots in the U.S by readers of Executive Traveler Magazine. The 18-hole course boasts a new 11-acre driving range and professional instruction by Ron Philo Sr., winner of a "Teacher of the Year" award in the Northeastern New York PGA section. Meeting attendees can take part in a golf tournament, skeet-shooting competition or a fishing tour in their leisure time. Other recreational activities include outdoor heated pool or lake swimming, tennis and canoeing on Lake Otsego. For a nominal fee, guests at The Otesaga can use The Clark Sports Center, offering a complete range of fitness classes, squash and racquetball courts, an Olympic pool, climbing wall, basketball and weight training. Operating on the American Plan, The Hotel handles all catering operations for groups. The Otesaga’s Main Dining Room serves grand buffet breakfasts and lunches, as well as a five-course dinner, the latter requiring a jacket for gentlemen in the evening. The Otesaga’s veranda overlooking Lake Otsego provides the perfect setting for sunset cocktails or a reception prior to dinner. For less formal yet intimate dining, there is the Hawkeye Bar & Grill, serving fine American fare. Guests may also enjoy dancing to live music in the Templeton Lounge, available for private functions. Amenities in The Otesaga’s newly refurbished guest rooms include remote-controlled cable television with HBO, telephones with voicemail and free high-speed wireless Internet access, irons and ironing boards, hair dryers, toiletries and Egyptian-cotton towels. For very large groups, the meetings staff will arrange additional accommodations at the 15-room Cooper Inn and at other nearby properties.
